All of the great domain names are gone. That is a common statement that is spread like a vicious virus to eat at the sanity of most intelligent people in the World that are yet to enter into the online space and that rubbish is generated by old moles that started sitting on domain names many years ago. They have LOTS to gain by keeping new players from entering the market because you are a competitor. Joe Smith from down the block that has an ABN to fix paper airplanes can register a .au domain name and he is a threat to the likes of Fairfax and CarSales. That’s a pretty powerful statement isn’t it?? Hi Mr. Fairfax, meet your new competitor in the online space. His name is Mr. Joe Smith, he’s got 3 titles of mechanic, bookkeeper and janitor and he’s your newest competitor. Why would Fairfax or any media organisation be scared of little Joe Smith from down the street? The reason is because little Joe Smith might just read Fairfax newspapers or read their news feeds online.
New words are formed everyday. New trends are formed every hour. New thoughts are created every minute throughout the day. I have people email me and ask me all of the time “Is this domain name good?” or “Is this domain name worth any money?” or make statements like “I sure wish I would’ve started investing into domain names and virtual property years ago at the beginning.” and I have this to say in reply- “All of the great domain names are NOT GONE and I have registered 10 domain names within the last 2 days that I can build a million dollar business off of any one of them.”
The best advice I can offer up to any person that is daring to dream the dream of becoming an entrepreneur and an even bigger dreamer of becoming a millionaire is to pay attention. When you wake up in the morning, pay attention. When you’re in the shower or brushing your teeth, pay attention. When you’re listening to your coffee drip and you smell how good it smells in anticipation of how fabulous it’s going to taste, pay attention. When you look at your digital clock, pay attention. When you are attracted to the cover of a newspaper or a magazine, pay attention. When you are attracted to a website, pay attention. Pay attention to whatever it is you are attracted to and whatever draws an interest from you even if it’s your own thoughts.
How did I amass over 6,000 domain names and become the CEO of one of the biggest domain name portfolio companies in Australia that is poised to be the next big take down in the new tech boom? The answer is simple- I paid attention to the past, analysed the present and focused on the future. I paid attention to market and industry leaders and put my passion and creative thinking along with my own personal experiences together to form a company that people could laugh at, and more than likely, lots did and still do, but still all the same is a company that is on the radar of several major media organisations and finance institutes.
Understanding that you can spend $25 or $50 today and acquire a domain name and then have an ongoing expense of $10 a month for some web hosting to begin a new stream of income for yourself is a very invigorating feeling. If you’re reading about the Scoopon’s and the Cudo’s, just know that they too started with a domain name and to be really honest… they’re not that bloody good and they got funded, so why can’t you? I say dream your dream mate and reach for the stars. There are still DIAMONDS in the rough and GOLD in the creek beds- all you have to do is take the first step. Good luck- and if you’re thinking about registering a domain name today, right now… then go on and do it, because in 10 minutes somebody else could’ve had the same thought.
