Jobs.net.au poised as new record holder for .net.au domain name sale

This week jobs.net.au was sold through NetFleet.com.au in an after market auction for $15,500.00, which is a new .net.au record.  The prior record of $15,001.00 was for creditcard.net.au, purchased by Pacific Octane Pty Ltd in September 2010.  The domain name expired in August of 2010 and was picked up by Montana Park Pty Ltd for $5,359.00 via Drop.com.au.  Fast track 9 months in the virtually unknown market of the .au domain name space and this pushes the trend upward even further that has been skyrocketing up for the last 12 months.

The domain name jobs.net.au was held in inventory by Montana Park Pty Ltd for approximately 260 days and in that time achieved a return of approximately 290%.  I’m not a financial planner and I don’t use one, but if I were a financial planner I would be looking at virtual property and domain names as a new product for retirement funds.  Congratulations to NetFleet.com.au and to the new owner.  I’m curious to see who the new owner is and if the emergence of end user corporate players such as Woolworth’s and Car Sales is an indication, I’d be inclined to think that this was possibly a Fairfax/OMG purchase.

I believe that with the action that is being given on the Groupon model as well as other variables floating around it, the .au domain name space will see the biggest growth trend that will pass that of the .co.uk in value and reach per capita.  The writing is on the wall with iSelect and other companies now realising the power of a bridging network of websites under one umbrella.  The value of the domain name in which to make these networks is of course following that trend.

This is a snippet from a release I did.

Pacific Octane loads $15k on creditcard.net.au in domain name “bargain”

Virtual property specialist Pacific Octane has splashed out a record $15,001.00 for the domain name creditcard.net.au, saying Australia was on the verge of its next billion-dollar industry.

CEO of Pacific Octane Pty Ltd, James Wester, said Australia was poised to emulate the growth seen in the top level domain (TLD) space, already a multi-billion dollar industry world-wide.

He said the country-coded .au domain name industry was in start up stage and predicted rapid growth over the next several years.

creditcard.net.au was a bargain!” Mr Wester said.

“We were happy to pay a record price for this domain name. Domain names in the .au space are undervalued and all evidence points to prices growing 10-fold within a few years,’’ he said.

Pacific Octane will add the newly acquired creditcard.net.au to its niche credit card marketing domain names within their portfolio of over 7,000 domain names.

Mr Wester said quality domain name assets for gaining market share online were vital for the company’s search engine optimisation efforts.

Just two years old, Pacific Octane is regarded as leading the domaining space in Australia.

The company specialises in domain name brand creation, domain name monetising, domain name leasing, domain name purchasing, domain name brokering, domain name valuations, marketing, media management and business consultation for branding and cobranding existing online and offline business.

This space will continue to grow and with the technological advances within the mobile device and tablet/pad markets, it’s only going to start growing faster.  If jobs.net.au were to grow in value at the same rate, what would it be valued at in 2015 or 2020?  I love my job.  I love my life.  I love the internet.
